Thank you for that inspiring thought, David! Our children give us a new set of eyes through which to experience everything. I'm constantly trying to remind myself to enjoy their curiosity and creativity--that's one reason I try to record some tiny bits of their lives in this blog, to stay aware and not wrapped up in myself all the time.
I sing in four languages, crossing borders with acoustic jazz, boleros, salsa and samba. I'm a songwriter, percussionist, dancer, pianist and tree-climber (also a mother, magazine editor and recovering auto mechanic). Since 2004, I've made five studio recordings, including my two solo efforts, "Jazzmérica" and "Vagabundeo," both produced by three-time Grammy nominee Wayne Wallace. My 2007 release reached top 20 airplay on the JazzWeek World Music chart while my lead singing on Wayne Wallace's "The Reckless Search for Beauty" was simultaneously in the top 10! When I looked at your son's wide open eyes, my first thought was: "there is a future".
Our kids, opening to the world, discovering it, questioning it and, hopefully, if they do better than us, improving it...
