"Gender is probably the most restricting force in American life, whether the question is who must be in the kitchen or who could be in the White House."
Gloria Steinem puts into words exactly what I was feeling until the New Hampshire results came in!
I sing in four languages, crossing borders with acoustic jazz, boleros, salsa and samba. I'm a songwriter, percussionist, dancer, pianist and tree-climber (also a mother, magazine editor and recovering auto mechanic). Since 2004, I've made five studio recordings, including my two solo efforts, "Jazzmérica" and "Vagabundeo," both produced by three-time Grammy nominee Wayne Wallace. My 2007 release reached top 20 airplay on the JazzWeek World Music chart while my lead singing on Wayne Wallace's "The Reckless Search for Beauty" was simultaneously in the top 10! On the other hand, there is this (representative--I picked the quickest Googgle) take on the Steinem argument:

Incidentally, thanks to BitchPhD, here's an interesting primer on the nominating process and what the primaries mean:

There are flaws in Steinem's piece. And I agree that the race shouldn't come down to black vs. woman, but rather issues and leadership capability.
