This amazing blog on the NYT site, Measure for Measure, contains posts by various famous songwriters. The description by Roseanne Cash of her songwriting process (via email) with Joe Henry is a delight. However, I have to say I liked her initial words quite a lot. I want to listen to the finished song to see if I like the improvements.

I sing in four languages, crossing borders with acoustic jazz, boleros, salsa and samba. I'm a songwriter, percussionist, dancer, pianist and tree-climber (also a mother, magazine editor and recovering auto mechanic). Since 2004, I've made five studio recordings, including my two solo efforts, "Jazzmérica" and "Vagabundeo," both produced by three-time Grammy nominee Wayne Wallace.
