The Original Original 'Air Mail Special'

According to Wayne, Lionel Hampton is the original performer of Air Mail Special. One source says that Ella's solo on this tune quoted from several pop hits, and you can certainly hear that she scats the horn lines at the head of the tune as well as some of the improv Lionel does. On the other hand, this particular video is from the late 70s--perhaps Hamp is quoting Ella? But wait, I just read that Air Mail Special is from the Benny Goodman sextet, in 1940, and written by Charlie Christian, Goodman and Jimmy Mundy. I'm basing all this on cursory online searches so if someone knows better, please correct me.
