Just Like A Woman: A Celebration of Bay Area Women In Music is pleased to announce its 3rd annual show, Saturday March 7, 2015 at 8:00 pm, at The Freight and Salvage Theatre, in Berkeley, CA. This year’s headliners are: 2013 GRAMMY winner, Alexa Weber Morales; blues/guitar vocalist, Pat Wilder, the Undisputed Queen of San Francisco Jazz & Swing Lavay Smith; 2012 Jazz Search finalist, Tiffany Austin; Violinists Tarika Lewis, Sandra Poindexter & India Cooke collectively known as The String Divas; and a tribute to soul singing women with show producer, Rhonda Benin, Oakland’s own Wanda Diamond & San Francisco native Darlene Coleman. The Lillian Armstrong Tribute Band directed by pianist/composer Tammy Lynn Hall Hawkins features bassist, Ruth Davies, drummer, Ruth Price and saxophonist, Kristen Strom.
“Just Like A Woman” was created by Bay Area vocalist Rhonda Benin to celebrate Women’s History Month. Its goal is to present a yearly music review with top Bay Area female vocalists and instrumentalists, showcasing music either written or made popular by women. In addition JLAW is committed to showcasing up-and-coming young women artists. Benin has financed the production of each year’s sold-out show with a successful Indiegogo campaign.
